Maternity Photography in Colorado Springs: What to Expect (and How to Make It Feel Effortless)
A refined, stress-free approach to capturing one of life’s most meaningful seasons.
There’s something about pregnancy that feels both slow and impossibly fast at the same time.
One minute you’re just finding out, and the next—you’re already thinking about how you want to remember it.
If you’ve been considering maternity photos but feel unsure about where to start (or how to make them feel like you), you’re not alone. Most of my clients come in wanting something beautiful—but also easy, natural, and not overly complicated.
The good news? It can absolutely feel that way.
As a maternity photographer in Colorado Springs, I’ve designed sessions to feel less like a production—and more like an experience you actually enjoy.
What Makes a Maternity Session Feel Different (In the Best Way)
A refined maternity session isn’t about perfection. It’s about intention.
You Don’t Have to “Know What to Do”
This is probably the biggest worry I hear—and you can let it go.
You’ll be gently guided through natural, flattering poses the entire time. Nothing stiff, nothing overly posed—just subtle direction that helps you feel comfortable and confident.
It’s Meant to Feel Calm, Not Rushed
We take our time. There’s space to breathe, adjust, change outfits, and settle into the moment.
And honestly? That’s when the best images tend to happen.
Let’s Talk About the Dress (Because It Matters)
Here’s the thing—most people don’t have a “maternity photoshoot dress” just hanging in their closet.
And buying one for a single session? Not exactly ideal.
That’s why I offer a client closet filled with carefully chosen pieces that photograph beautifully—flowy fabrics, flattering silhouettes, and options that highlight your bump in all the right ways.
Whether you want something soft and minimal or a bit more dramatic, you’ll have options—and help choosing what feels best.
Studio or Outdoor Maternity Photos—Which Should You Choose?
One of the best parts about maternity photography in Colorado Springs is the flexibility. You can go polished and minimal, or natural and scenic.
Studio Sessions
If you love a clean, timeless aesthetic, studio sessions are a beautiful option. The focus stays entirely on you — your shape, your movement, and your connection during this season of life. Studio sessions also give us the flexibility to slow down and really create portraits you love, without feeling rushed by changing weather or sunset timing. Because we’re working with professional studio lighting, we can take our time refining posing, movement, and details throughout your session.
Outdoor Sessions
If you’re drawn to nature, we have some incredible locations nearby:
Garden of the Gods — bold, iconic scenery with stunning sunset light
Bear Creek Regional Park — a beautiful mix of open fields, trees, and mountain views with a softer, natural feel
Fox Run Regional Park — tall pine trees, peaceful trails, and a more woodsy, intimate atmosphere
These are just a few of the many beautiful options available. During your complimentary consultation, we’ll talk through the style you’re drawn to and what you envision for your Colorado backdrop so we can choose the perfect location together.
There’s truly no wrong choice — it all comes down to the style and feeling you want for your session.
Can You Include Your Family? (Absolutely.)
Maternity sessions don’t have to be solo—unless you want them to be.
You’re always welcome to include:
Your partner
Your kids
Even your dog (because they’re family too)
Some of the most meaningful images come from these shared moments—the excitement, the connection, the quiet anticipation.
When Should You Schedule Your Maternity Photos?
A good rule of thumb: aim for somewhere between 28–34 weeks.
At that point, your bump is beautifully visible, but you’re usually still comfortable enough to move around and enjoy the experience.
Of course, every pregnancy is different—so we’ll adjust based on what feels best for you.
A Few Simple Tips to Make Your Session Feel Easy
Keep It Simple
You don’t need five outfits or a complicated plan. A couple of well-chosen looks go a long way.
Trust the Process
You don’t need to worry about posing, lighting, or angles—that’s all taken care of.
Focus on the Moment
The best images happen when you’re not overthinking—just being present in the experience.
Why This Season Is Worth Capturing
It’s easy to put maternity photos on the “maybe” list.
But this season—however it feels right now—is something you’ll never quite experience in the same way again.
And having images that reflect it honestly and beautifully? That’s something that only becomes more meaningful over time.
